Summertime in Maine is the perfect time for water activities and sports.
Maine’s numerous lakes, bays, ocean beaches and ponds are prime summer destinations–they are some of the most beautiful locations in New England. Sun protection is very important, and we have a great selection of athletic sun hats that ensure maximum style, comfort and most importantly, sun protection.
The T-3 cotton duck Tilley hat is perfect for outdoor excursions. Made with a firm canvas sailcloth material, its medium brim snaps up on both sides. Embark on windy sailing trips without any worries–the handy adjustable wind cord will hold it on from behind your head and under your chin. A foam lining built into the crown allows your hat to float in the event that it goes overboard. Stash your money in the secret inner pocket. A perfect hat for everyone for any outdoor activity. Use it all over Maine and take it around the world.
The Sunday Afternoons Sun Tripper cap is a great athletic style, made with breathable nylon water-resistant sun fabric certified to UPF 50+. Sport this unisex hat while playing water polo or baseball, or while fishing off the dock. Pair it with a swimsuit and shorts for a casual summer look. Utilize its folding brim to minimize its size to fit neatly into your pocket.
Children’s sun hats are located here.

Don’t forget all of the dads in your life on June 19th!
Did you know that the first observance of Father’s Day took place in Fairmont, West Virginia on July 5, 1908? Mrs. Grace Golden Clayton organized it to celebrate the lives of the 210 fathers who had been lost in the Monongah Mining disaster several months earlier on December 6, 1907 in Monongah, West Virginia.
A bill for national recognition of Father’s Day was introduced in Congress in 1913. In 1924 US President Calvin Coolidge recommended that the day be observed by the nation, but stopped short of issuing a national proclamation. Two earlier attempts to formally recognize the holiday were defeated by Congress.
In 1957 Maine Senator Margaret Chase Smith wrote a proposal accusing Congress of ignoring fathers for 40 years while honoring mothers, thus “singling out just one of our two parents”. In 1966 President Lyndon B. Johnson issued the first presidential proclamation honoring fathers, designating the third Sunday in June as Father’s Day. Six years later, the day was made a permanent national holiday when President Richard Nixon signed it into law in 1972. This Father’s Day marks the 39th anniversary of the first official Father’s Day in the United States!
On that note, Happy Father’s Day to all fathers everywhere!

Felt fedora by Christine A. Moore Millinery

Stingy Brim Fedora by Makins Hats
What a great style! The fedora hat style is returning for both men and women. Women are wearing the fedora hat for its classic good looks. We borrowed the style from men, so I suppose that is why the fedora hat looks great with a business suit. When women wear the fedora, there is a certain magic it creates, maybe its the dip of the brim that highlights the eyes, or maybe the traditional feather on the side adding a flash of color. Find your own magic fedora here Fedora Hats for Women. Don’t be shy — take a look at the Mens Fedora Hats too.
Beware: you will get attention!

I love hats and always have. I love to wear them, read about them, shop for them and make them. Hats are my business, my pastime, and my fun. Essentially, hats take up a huge amount of time in my life right now, and I would like to share hat stories, pictures and any comments interested readers may have.
With the winter season upon us, it is time to turn our attention to warm woolen hats and hats with ear covers. We like the very fashionable Lillie & Cohoe hats with their signature ear covers. Their styles are timeless, easy to wear and look great on just about anyone. After all, they are made in Canada where they do know a thing or two about cold weather!
What is your favorite hat for winter? We would like to know its style and why it is your favorite hat.
Welcome to our blog – let’s chat about hats!
